Quarry – Stylized Rock Generator for Godot 4
A downloadable tool
Stop modeling rocks. Generate them.
Quarry is a rock generator for Godot 4. Add a QuarryRock or a QuarryField node, pick a preset, click New Seed, and tweak a few sliders. You get stylized low-poly rocks in the colors of your game, with optional collision, right in the editor.
Made for level designers and indie developers who need many rocks in their game's colors, including for prototypes.

Try it first: Quarry Lite is free (Boulder preset, all sliders, palettes and collision). [LINK: Quarry Lite]
Why Quarry
1. A new rock for every seed. A free pack is a fixed set of rocks, the same ones everyone else who downloads it gets. With Quarry, every seed gives you a different rock with the same settings. Change the seed and you have a new one.

2. Whole areas in one node. Scatter rocks over a meadow, line them up as a canyon wall, or arrange them in a stone circle. A field holds up to 500 rocks and can mix all five rock types. Make Editable turns the result into normal nodes when you want to place rocks by hand. Bake Field merges a whole field into one mesh file, so nothing is rebuilt when the scene loads.

3. How Quarry compares to free options.
| Free rock pack (e.g. Kyle's Rock Pack) | Free placement add-ons (Asset Placer (levinzonr), ProtonScatter) | Quarry | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rocks | 612 prefabs from 16–17 base rocks, fixed shapes | None, they place existing models | A new rock for every seed, 5 shapes |
| Colors | 36 textures, fixed | Whatever your models have | 5 palettes or your own base, dark and top colors |
| Rock fields | Place by hand, or with an add-on | Brush or scatter existing models | Scatter, ring or line in one node, up to 500 rocks |
| Collision | Mesh collider on every rock | Snap to existing collision | Optional convex collision, one checkbox |
| Price | Free (CC0) | Free (MIT) | $7.99 |
There are also rock generators for Blender (for example a $7 one on Superhive Market). They run in Blender, so you export the rocks from there. Quarry works directly in the Godot editor.
If a few fixed models are enough, take a free pack like Kyle's Rock Pack, or Asset Placer (levinzonr) or ProtonScatter if you want to place or scatter models you already have. Quarry is for when you need many different rocks, rocks in your game's colors, or rocks made from code.

Features
Rock (QuarryRock)
- 5 shape presets: Boulder, Pebble, Cliff, Pillar, Slab
- Every seed gives a different rock. The same seed always gives the same rock
- Detail from chunky to smooth, up to 5,120 triangles
- Chisel cuts, ledges, flat tops and bottoms, taper
- Crisp facets or smooth river stones
- 5 color palettes (Moss, Snow, Sand, Bare, Basalt), or your own base, dark and top colors
- Moss, snow or sand on upward faces, stored as vertex colors (no textures)
- Optional convex collision that follows every change
- Bake to
.tresor export.glb - Small scene files: rocks are rebuilt from their settings instead of stored as meshes (see Performance)
Field (QuarryField)
- 5 presets: Meadow, Riverbed, Rubble, Stone Circle, Canyon Wall
- 3 patterns: Scatter (random spots with a minimum distance), Ring (stone circle), Line (wall along the X axis)
- Up to 500 rocks, any mix of the 5 rock types
- Size range, tilt and sink into the ground
- Snap to Ground drops each rock onto the collider below it
- Same seed, same layout
- Make Editable turns the rocks into normal nodes you can edit one by one
- Bake Field (.res): merges all rocks of a field into one mesh file, so nothing is rebuilt when the scene loads. With collision on, one convex shape per rock
General
- Pure GDScript. No dependencies, nothing to enable
- Generate rocks from code, for example
QuarryRock.new()with presets and seeds
Performance
Load time of a scene with 500 rocks (Godot 4.7.1, Intel i7-8700K, after a warm-up run):
| Rebuilt on load | With Bake Field | |
|---|---|---|
| Boulders + Pebbles | ~0.6 s | under 0.05 s |
| Boulders + Pebbles, with collision | ~1.1 s | ~0.25 s |
| Cliffs | ~3.5 s | under 0.1 s |
| Cliffs, with collision | 3.6–4.6 s | 0.25–0.36 s |
Rocks are rebuilt from their settings when a scene loads (also in the exported game) unless the field is baked; around 100 Boulders and Pebbles add about 0.1 s. Times vary between runs by up to a third. Bake Field files are large: about 10 MB for 500 Boulders and Pebbles, 38 MB for 500 Cliffs, plus under 1 MB for collision.
Requirements: Godot 4.5 or newer. Tested with Godot 4.5.2, 4.6.3 and 4.7.1 (Forward+, Mobile and Compatibility).
What you get: the addon folder, demo scenes, and a README that explains every setting.
